Gracie D. Carter, a beloved soul and cherished matriarch, peacefully passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 92, in Louisville, Kentucky.
Born on September 7, 1932, in Edmondson County, Kentucky, Gracie was the daughter of Walter and Ella (Browning) Ashley, who have since passed. She now joins her late husband, Robert Carl "Buck" Carter, Sr., her son-in-law Leonard Lanham, and her dear siblings in eternal rest.
Gracie's legacy lives on through her devoted family: her children, Robert Carl (Kathy) Carter, Jr., Judy (Daniel) Baker, Brenda (JP) Fugate, Billy (Laura) Carter, and Becky (Pep) Leon. She was a proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren, a loving great-grandmother to 20 great-grandchildren, and a treasured great-great-grandmother to 2. Gracie also leaves behind her sister, Louella Napper, and her brother, Leon Ashley, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
A woman of deep faith, Gracie found strength and solace in her spiritual community, attending both Hope Life Center and Lighthouse Christian Center. Her warmth and kindness radiated in all her relationships, earning her the affectionate title of "Mammaw" from many who loved her. Gracie enjoyed working in the daycare at Evangel World Prayer Center, where her joy for nurturing and guiding children shone brightly.
In her leisure time, Gracie pursued her passions with enthusiasm, including her love for collecting porcelain dolls and listening to the soul-stirring Gospel music of Elvis. She embraced life with a joyful spirit, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life during visitation on Tuesday, November 12th, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy. A Funeral Service will follow at 6:00 PM.
