Gloria Dickens, 66, went home on Friday, June 7, 2013.
Gloria Dickens was the daughter of the late Oscar and LJ Simmons. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington Senior High School and also attended L.S.U. of New Orleans, LA. She received an associate degree in Surgical Technology. She worked 15 years as a Surgical Tech at Charity, Public Health, and V.A. Hospitals. She was the national chairperson of Surgical Techs in New Orleans, LA and a retired Postal Worker of 21 years.
She was the president of the district sewing circle. She also worked with the Executive Board, the Greeters Committee, and the Sunshine Band at Brighter Day Church of God in Christ. Before coming to New Albany, IN she was a member of St. Paul Church of God in Christ of New Orleans, LA under the leadership of Elder Ernest Dison. Her passions and hobbies were sewing, gardening, crocheting and ceramics.
She is survived by two sisters, Rosie Lee Talbert of Chicago, IL and Betty Jean Brown of Houston, TX. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Oscar Simmons Jr. and Alfred Simmons. She was married to the late Bradsdell Dickens. She is survived by her four children, Zelanda Simmons, Lazelle Dickens, Charles Dickens, & Bradsell Dickens. She has two daughters in law, Quiana Dickens and Ranata Dickens. She is survived by her 10 grandchildren, Essence Simmons, Encinual Carter, Charles Dickens Jr., Malik Parker, Iriane Parker, Tyriane Parker, Resean Dickens, Brielle Dickens, Amani Dickens, and Gabrielle Dickens; and her best friend, Lucille Paige. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends.
Visitation will be from 10 AM to 11 AM on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Brighter Day Anderson Temple Church of God in Christ(1755 E. 8th Street, Jeffersonville, IN). Her Funeral Service will be at 11:30 AM on Thursday at the church with burial to follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
