Gilbert M. Marshall

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Gilbert M. Marshall, aged 80, who departed this life on Thursday, March 6, 2025, in his beloved hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

Born on December 20, 1944, Gilbert was the cherished son of the late William and Frances (Craig) Marshall. He joins in eternal rest with his beloved wife, Darlene Marshall, as well as his dear sisters, Marilyn Mullins and Melinda Block, who preceded him in death.

Gilbert leaves behind a supportive and loving family, including his treasured sisters, Melanie (Dan DeMuth) Howard and Suzanne (Joel) Barker, step daughter Kim (Cale) Kearschner, and numerous other family members and friends who will forever hold a special place for him in their hearts.

With pride, Gilbert served our country in the U.S. Army Reserves from November 8, 1965, until January 7, 1967. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Darlene. Proud of his trade, Gilbert worked as a butcher, dedicating his skills at Sav A Lot, A & P, and Melton's Grocery, where he found joy in providing for his family.

Gilbert will be fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to find joy in life’s simplest pleasures. His honesty and noble spirit shone brightly; he was a man who never spoke ill of anyone. Always eager to lend a helping hand, he embraced every opportunity to uplift those around him. Gilbert had a passion for music of all genres, enjoyed antiquing, and cherished outings to peddlers’ malls with his sisters. He also shared a special bond with his loyal companion, Venus, who brought him much happiness.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation scheduled from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm on Thursday, March 20th, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel (10304 Dixie Hwy). The Funeral Service will commence at 1:30 pm, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
