Gertrude Tyson Smith, age 96, formally of Wheelwright, KY., passed away in Louisville, KY on October 4, 2019. She was born on December 3, 1922 in Wheelwright, KY. to her parents, the late Eugene Lewis Sr. and Julia Johnson. From this union six children were born. Gertrude was preceded her in death by her sisters, Willie Lee Blackmon and Maxine Terry; and brothers, Eugene Lewis Jr., John David Lewis and James Williams Lewis.
At an early age Gertrude accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She continued to love, obey and serve God faithfully until death. She was united in marriage to Marshall Tyson, who preceded her in death. From this union four children were born who also preceded her in death, Marshall Tyson Jr. (Shirley), William Billy Tyson, Darlene Green, James Tyson (Deborah); grandchildren, Marcus and Maurice Tyson.
Gertrude leaves to mourn her, sister, Flora Mae Kavanaugh; grandchildren, Renita, Darryl, Asanti, Marshall James, Sean and Mickey; daughter-in-laws, Carol Tyson and Lisa Tyson; son-in-law, Larry Green; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She later united in marriage to William (Big Track) Smith, who preceded her in death as well.
Visitation will be 10 am to 11:30 am on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky (in Middletown), with a celebration of Gertrude's life at 11:30 am.
