Geraldine "Gerry" Kaestner, a devoted educator, loving mother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born on June 22, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois.
Gerry dedicated her life to teaching and shaping the minds of young students at Jefferson County Public Schools. Her passion for education was exemplified by her achievement in earning a Master’s Degree in Education, a testament to her commitment to lifelong learning.
Gerry was not just an exceptional teacher; she was dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge. A gifted quilter, she created beautiful pieces that reflected her creativity and skill. Her love for literature drew her to book clubs where deep discussions and lasting friendships flourished. Always a supporter of the arts, Gerry volunteered her time at IU Southeast and the Kentucky Center for the Arts, fostering a community that appreciated culture and creativity. Her faith was also central to her life; she was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, where she nurtured her spirituality.
Left to mourn her passing is her beloved son, Andrew (Rebecca) Jansing-Kaestner; her cherished grandchildren, Ian (Sydney) Jansing-Kaestner and Elaine Jansing-Kaestner; her niece, Rachel (Scott) Paccagnini and their children. Gerry was also proud to be the great-grandmother of Weston Jansing. She is also survived by her brother, Dennis Schuyler.
Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Sylvia Olszewski Schuyler; her brother, Donald Schuyler; and her sister, Sylvia Parsons.
