Gerald Dean Standridge Sr.

January 20, 1936 — October 6, 2024

Louisville

Gerald Dean Standridge Sr. was called home by the Lord on October 6, 2024, surrounded by wife and children. Born on January 20, 1936, Gerald lived a full life that touched everyone lucky enough to know him.

Gerald was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Airborne, 11th Airborne Division, a time that help further his deep sense of patriotism. He went on to have a successful career as a Controller at KFC, followed by time with Burnes Enterprises but it was his love for his family and fishing that truly defined him.

He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 64 years, Karen Standridge, and their bond was one filled with unwavering affection and countless cherished moments. As a father, Gerald was a guiding light to his children: Gerald Dean Standridge Jr. (Susan), Jeff Standridge (Stacey). Todd Standridge (Michelle) and Jacinda S. Kopke (Brian). He was also a proud grandfather to his grandchildren: Kathleen Tierney Lanham, Justin Diehl, Jacob Diehl, Josh Diehl, Erin Lausterer, Caitlin Standridge, Elizabeth Standridge, Victoria Bishop, Camille Standridge, Jackson Standridge, Jacey Standridge, Dylan Standridge, Ayden Standridge, Ethan Kopke, Greta Kopke, Grace Kopke and 16 great-grandchildren. Gerald's legacy is reflected in each and every family member, ensuring that his spirit and memories will be cherished for generations to come.

Gerald enjoyed his trips to Gulf Shores, Alabama, Alabama football and peach Brandy. The days spent by the water, with Karen and others were the highlights of his life. Fishing wasn’t just a hobby for him; it was a way to connect with the people he loved.

Though Gerald is no longer with us, his spirit lives on through the lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his father, Jethro; his mother, Selma; his brother Wendall, his daughter, Tierney and grandson Jarrod. Their absence is felt deeply, but his legacy of love and laughter will continue to shine in the hearts of his family and friends.

Day is done, gone the sun,

From the hills, from the lake, from the skies.

All is well, safely rest,

God is nigh.

Go to sleep, peaceful sleep,

May the soldier, or sailor, God keep.

On the land, or the deep,

Safe in sleep.
