Gerald Raymond "Jerry" Schmidt

Gerald Raymond "Jerry" Schmidt, 79, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Jerry had many interests that included gardening, playing cards, and horse racing. He adored his grandchildren and always enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was born on November 6, 1943, in New Albany, Indiana, to Raymond and Mary (Bachman) Schmidt. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his siblings, John Schmidt, Diane Williams and Raymond Schmidt.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia (Keaney) Schmidt; sons, Todd (Tricia), Brian (Carrie), Kevin Schmidt; grandchildren, Jenna Schmidt, Garrett Schmidt, Chloe Wilson; siblings, James (Linda), Janice Schmidt, Sharon Gossman (Steve), Linda Miller, Lisa Schmidt; sister-in-law, Nina Schmidt; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A reception of family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with cremation to follow according to Jerry's wish.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer's Association.
