George "Richard" Wrenn, 70, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022. He graduated from Atherton High School in 1970 and was voted "Mr. Atherton" by his classmates. Richard enjoyed working at Home Depot in Clarksville. He was a handyman that was always willing to help out his family in any way that he could. Richard, more than anything, loved being a Pawpaw and was fond of each of his granddogs.
He was born on August 9, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky, to John and Mary (Weber) Wrenn. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Jackie Barton; father- and mother-in-law, Robert, Sr., and Mary Rose Hornung; brothers-in-law, Doug Barton and Tony Fargnoli; and nephew, David Dahl.
Richard is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Karen (Hornung) Wrenn; children, Jesse Wrenn (Cara) and Lauren Payne (Sean); grandchildren, Declan Payne, and Georgia and June Wrenn; sisters, Patricia Wrenn, Elaine Fargnoli, and Ginny Benesh; nephew, Robbie Dahl; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Robert, Jr., and Ronny Hornung, Kevin and Linda Hornung, Rose Hornung Betz and David Betz, and Scott and Kelly Hornung; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Richard's wish was to be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022, at his family's shelter house (1817 Graybrook Lane, New Albany, IN 47150). Later that evening at 6:30 p.m., there will be an opportunity for anyone that wishes to participate in sharing stories and memories of Richard. He will be laid to rest privately with his family at Calvary Cemetery in Louisville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Richard Wrenn Memorial Fund (c/o First Harrison Bank; make checks payable to Karen Wrenn: Richard Wrenn Memorial Fund) to support his grandchildren's future.
