George Bernard Wolz, 84, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. He was a proud 1957 graduate of St. Xavier High School in Louisville and served in the United States Army. George retired from the United States Postal Service after 36 years working as a mail carrier. Upon retirement, George and his wife, Mary Jane, moved to Nalcrest, Florida, where they attended St. Leo's Mission Catholic Church. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Knights of Columbus - Cardinal Ritter Council #1221 and St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Sellersburg. George was also an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats.
He was born on August 9, 1939 to George and Bertha (Kelmel) Wolz. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane (Schindler) Wolz; and siblings, Agnes Book, Margaret Goss, Ralph Wolz, and Norman Wolz.
George is survived by his daughters, Michelle Draper, Stephanie Eichenberger (Daniel, M.D.); seven grandchildren, Daniel (Natalie), Jacob (Amanda), Elise (Steve), Benjamin (Sara), Lunden (Andrew), Sally (Scott), and Stuart (Cindy); 21 great-grandchildren; siblings, Paul Wolz (Judy), Mary Bolton (Bob), Ruth Ann Wolz; brothers-in-law, Paul Book, Anthony Goss; and numerous generations of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Reception (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Wednesday after 9:00 a.m. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs) with burial and military honors to follow in the church cemetery.
