George Skinner

January 18, 1952 — March 9, 2025

Louisville, KY

George Skinner, a beloved member of his family and community, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, at the age of 73. He was born on January 18, 1952, in Griffytown, Kentucky, to the late Scott and Henrietta (Roberts) Skinner. George's legacy is not only marked by his joyous spirit but also by his profound commitment to education and family.

A proud graduate of Eastern High School, George furthered his education by earning an Associate's degree at Indian Hills Community College, followed by a Bachelor's degree from William Penn University in Iowa. His dedication to his studies exemplified his belief in the power of education as a tool for personal and community growth.

George served with unwavering commitment as a volunteer with Jeffersontown Fire Department for 27 years, always putting others before himself and risking his life to protect others. His courage, strength, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

Beyond his work with the fire department, George was a pillar of our community. Whether through his support of local events, his mentorship, or his kindness, he touched the lives of countless people, always ready to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement. As a football coach and security guard at Jeffersontown High School for 33 years, George instilled in his students the values of teamwork, perseverance, and respect—lessons that extended far beyond the game and the school hallways.

George’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the indelible impact he made in our town. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew him. Rest in peace, George. Your dedication and heart will forever be remembered.

George will be remembered as a fun-loving individual, fondly referred to as “Skins” by the children at school. He embodied the spirit of a gentle giant, nurturing those around him with kindness and laughter.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years, Geraldine Skinner, and their children, Shanta Whitlow (Nathaniel Taylor) and Taveras Whitlow (Tracy). George was a devoted grandfather to Brooklyn Whitlow, Londyn Whitlow, Triniti Whitlow, Shelby Plummer, Alexandria Whitlow, Angel Taylor, and Alexis Taylor. He took great joy in being a great-grandfather to Xavier Avert, Delilah Gomez, Zella Gomez, and another great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Doris "Sissy" Skinner, and his Godchildren, Larry Little, Oliver Barnett and the Twin Ford Girls.

George joins his late brothers—Harry Lee, Michael Allen, Bobby Glen, and Garry Skinner—who have preceded him in death.
