George Louis Holzknecht Jr., 95, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on October 28,
2022. He was born to the late George Louis Sr. and Frances Kiefer Holzknecht on September 6, 1927. He graduated from Louisville Male High School in 1945. He attended the University of Louisville, graduating in 1950 with a BS in accounting. While at U of L he excelled at intermural baseball (Pitcher) and basketball. George married Pauline Kay Warner in April 1950. He went on to work at Ford Motor Co., Hercules Galion (Galion, OH, 5 years), Louisville Mortgage, H&R Block (40+ years) and a couple others working into his late 70's.
George delighted in watching his grandchildren participate in their varied activities. He loved it all and loved these three beyond measure. He always enjoyed going out monthly with his Lunch Bunch of long-time buddies and all big U of L fans like him. In his later years, while living at Wickshire he liked to play cards and reveled in being the most popular fella on the dance floor with the ladies!
In 2014 he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Pauline Warner
Holzknecht. George was also preceded in death by his parents, George Louis Sr. and Frances Holzknecht, sister, Marie (Bill) Lloyd and his brother and good buddy, Edward (Lois) Holzknecht.
George is survived by his children, Craig (Becky) Holzknecht, Jane Holzknecht Gliebe of St. Louis, MO, grandchildren Christine (Mickey) Cox of St. Louis, Adam (Shelby) Gliebe of New Albany, IN and Sam (Amber) Holzknecht of Clarkson, KY. He was also blessed with five healthy great-grandchildren, Colton, Carter and Blakely Holzknecht and twins, Finnegan and Mabel Cox.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky, 40243) from 3:00pm – 7:00pm. There will be a committal service on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Louisville Memorial Gardens East (11601 Ballardsville Rd, Louisville, KY 40241) beginning at 11:00am.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Louisville Science Center to honor the volunteer services of Pauline (727 W Main St, Louisville, KY 40202).
