George M. "Apples" Gehring, 96, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013 in Clarksville, Indiana.
Apples was born on March 20, 1917 to the late Charles & Georgia Anastasia (Hoffman) Garing. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Albany. Apples spent 72 years married to the love of his life, "Bee" Gehring, until her death on July 20, 2012. He was an avid golfer and member of the Valley View Golf Course and even had a "Hole-in-One" three different times. After retiring from E.M. Cummings Veneers, Apples enjoyed working at the Sellersburg Liquor Store for 20 years until the age of 92.
Apples will be missed by his children, Judy Criner and Martin Gehring (Linda); sister, Dorothy Daugherty; grandchildren, Jena Kemmer (Kerry), Derek Criner, Heidi Runge (Geoff), Matthew Gehring, and Casey Trump (Jesse); and seven great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Garing; sisters, Catherine Kerstiens, Martha Duggan, & Francis Gehring.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Ln., New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be at 11 AM Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church (415 E 8th Street, New Albany, IN) with cremation to follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (701 W Muhammad Ali Blvd, Louisville, KY 40203).
