George Allen Bonnell

George Allen Bonnell II, age 80 of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020. He was born to George and Esther Bonnell on January 29, 1940 in Clifton Springs, NY. After a lifetime filled with family and adventure, George passed peacefully on December 14, 2020 at the age of 80 in Louisville, KY, surrounded by his loved ones. George was an honors graduate of Phelps High School in New York. He attended college in Ohio before joining the United States Army. While serving our country, he was accepted into the prestigious helicopter pilot training program. George was in Germany serving our country at the beginning of the Vietnam War, in which he often spoke of as one of the most memorable times of his life.

After leaving the Army George worked in various arenas including finance and para-legal work. He had a strong passion for sports. In high school he earned letters in baseball, football, and basketball. He had also played for the army baseball team. He loved watching his children play sports. You could often find George at the horse races, playing golf, watching Kentucky basketball, and spending time with the ones he loved dearly. George was preceded in death by his dad George Roscoe Bonnell, mom Esther Mae Kelsey, and sister Judy Ann Young.

Left behind to celebrate his life are his three children Allen (Robin) Bonnell, Courtnee (Lee) Hysinger, Darin Gravile; 5 grandchildren that he absolutely adored, Rachel, Noah, Aspen, Drew, Liam. George is also survived by his longtime companion, Sandy; his niece, Jenny Bordwell (Bruce); great-nephews, Kristopher, Nathan, Kayden, Blake, Daniel; great-niece, Kaitlin; and a host of cousins and special friends.

Visitation will be 11am to 1pm on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky (in Middletown), with a celebration of Mr. Bonnell's life at 1pm. Burial will follow at 2:45 pm at Grove Hill Cemetery, 458 Mt Eden Rd, Shelbyville, KY 40065.
