Genevieve Florence Conaway McCartney, age 100 of Louisville, passed away peacefully at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in PeeWee Valley, Kentucky, on Monday, September 7, 2015. She was the former Genevieve Baker Conaway McCartney, born in Portland, Oregon on August 16, 1915. Genevieve was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Allen B. Conaway, Sr., and Orville McCartney, three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include her five children – Allen B. Conaway, Jr., Jacqueline Yockey, Marjorie Carpenter, Stephen G. Conaway and Kathleen Liggett; seventeen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Genevieve was a devout Christian who inspired many people to accept Christ as their savior. She gave thousands of "The Burning Hut" tracts to people of all walks of life over her lifetime. She was a long-time member of The Chapel of the Cross in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and Evangel World Prayer Center in Louisville, Kentucky. She was actively involved with the Louisville Seniors and was Prayer Coordinator and author of "Gems From Genevieve" for High Adventure Ministries, Louisville, Kentucky.
She was a friend to many, and a frequent guest at the Louisville Bridge Center.
A service will be held in Fort Walton Beach, Florida at The Chapel of The Cross, 100 Jonquil Avenue on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 1PM. Burial will be in Beal Memorial Cemetery, Fort Walton Beach, FL. There is no visitation in Louisville, Kentucky.
