Gay Ann Ratterman

August 9, 1937 — February 24, 2025

Louisville, Kentucky

Gay Ann Ratterman, 87, of Louisville, KY, was born into eternal life on Monday, February 24, 2025. She was the oldest daughter of the late Charles and Isolina Ratterman.

Preceded in death by her beloved parents and brother Eugene Ratterman, her memory lives on with her sister Charlene Peyton (Larry), brother David Ratterman (Penny Coleman), and sister-in-law Jeanine Ratterman; her nieces and nephews Tresa Ratterman (Joey Barnett), Renee Lawrence (Mike), Gene Ratterman (Margie), Tiffany Page (Alan), Jennifer Bean (Bill), and Allyson McClatchy (Chris); and her cherished great-nieces and -nephews Brad (Justin Baillargeon) and Nicholas (Cortney) Barnett; Andrew (Kelly), Adam, and Laura Lawrence; Ben, Ethan, and Nolan Page; Peyton, Davis, Hudson, and Graham Bean; and Maren and Drew McClatchy, as well as countless friends and extended family members. Gay’s most precious gifts were her large family, many friends, and menagerie of pets!

“God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7) Gay exemplified the definition of a giver’s heart. Forever a cheerful giver, she was thrifty with herself but graciously generous with her time, money, and heart. Epitomizing the very best of humanity, she felt every soul was worthy of her love and never hesitated to take action when she felt there was someone or something in need. Her warm heart and contagious smile were only rivaled by her laughter and dry wit. She especially loved to tease her family and friends, but no one was spared from her fun-loving shenanigans.

Gay spent most of her career working in the printing industry but was sustained by her hobbies of oil painting, calligraphy, and taking in stray cats and dogs!

Gay's family would like to thank her caregivers from Hosparus Health and the nurses and staff at Baptist Floyd who treated Gay and our family with kindness, attentiveness, and compassion. You brought sunshine through our sorrow and your care for our feisty Gay will never be forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 8th at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A remembrance of Gay’s life will immediately follow at 3:00 PM. To mirror Gay’s playful personality, the family requests that guests wear their favorite colors.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gay's honor to: Kentucky Humane Society (1000 Lyndon Lane, Suite B, Louisville, KY 40222, www.kyhumane.org/donate/) or to St. Vincent de Paul Louisville (www.svdplou.org/donate-now - Select "Make this a Tribute Gift" to enter Gay's name).
