Gary L. Tatro

Gary L. Tatro, affectionately known as "Tater," was born on March 16, 1950, in Louisville, Kentucky. He passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 3, 2024. Gary's vibrant spirit and larger-than-life personality touched the lives of all who knew him.

A graduate of Southern High School in 1969, Gary furthered his education at JCC, laying a strong foundation for his diverse career. He began his professional journey as Cabinet Builder for Kitchen Compact and later transitioned into sales with Frank D.R. Williams Distributing Company. Not only was Gary an industrious worker, but he also made a significant impact as the owner and operator of Economy Grave Liners and concluded his career in the IT department at Anthem Blue Cross.

Gary’s passion for life extended beyond his work. He was a devoted sports enthusiast who played softball and football, and he enjoyed golf in his leisure hours. Gary was also an avid UK fan. Gary also had a special fondness for the Kentucky Derby, earning the affectionate title of “Mr. Derby.” His quick wit and one-liners made him the life of the party, and his infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all. 

He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughter, Mandy Harrington (Ryan); grandson, Zack Chesser; and his siblings, Judy Toohey, Susan Yates (Henry), and Steve Tatro. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish the memories they have of him.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Tatro; his sister-in-law, Carol Tatro; and his best friend, Bill Renders. The love and joy he brought into the lives of those around him will forever be remembered.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Gary's life on October 8, 2024, with a visitation from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00 PM. Both events will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243.
