Gary James Southern

Gary James "Jimmy" Southern, 61, of Clarksville, Indiana, left this life on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Clark Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family at his side. Jimmy was fun-loving and loved to tell jokes. He could tell one joke after another. He loved playing cards and table games. He enjoyed spending time with his family and, overall, had a pleasant outlook on life. He loved the Lord and was always reading the Bible and quoting Scripture.

He was born on February 26, 1962, in Sonora, Kentucky, to William "Bill" and Stella (Burchett) Southern. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his ex-wife and the mother of his children, Debbie Stewart; his beloved significant other, Elizabeth "Betty" Pry; his sister, Sue; and his brother, Louis.

Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Matthew) Barrett of New Albany, Indiana; son, Danny Southern of Sterling, Illinois; sisters, Jean (Charlie) Lawson of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Katie (Rob) Southern-Kelly of Burke, Virginia; brothers, Dallas (Charlotte) Southern of Garfield, Kentucky, Dan (Debbie) Southern of Seaford, Delaware, and Randy (Maggie) Southern of Irvington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Kaylyn, Kaleb, and Tiffany; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cat, Lizzie.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Guests are encouraged to dress casually.
