Gary Lee Herb

August 15, 1956 — February 18, 2024

Gary Lee Herb, a longtime resident of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on February 18, 2024, at the age of 67. He was born on August 15, 1956, in Westlake, Ohio, to Donald and Martha Teniak-Herb. He was their oldest son of four children. He was married to his lifelong partner Joy Allison Hays-Herb and they have been married for nearly 43 years. His life was one dedicated to his family and friends, which included his fellow AMVETS Riders of local AMVETS post #61. Both of which he was devoted to over the past several years after serving in the US Army.

Gary was preceded to heaven by his parents, Donald and Martha Herb; numerous aunts and uncles; his brother, Keith Herb; and his daughter, Tracy Hays.

He is also survived and will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Joy Herb, his children; Karey Herb; Ashley Herb-Gillon (Sean Gillon), Daniel Boulting (son-in-law) and his grandchildren; Cassandra Herb-Gillon, Tristan Gillon, Clarice Gillon and Sean Ashton Gillion; his siblings, Valerie Herb-Ragland (Prentis) and Dale Herb along with several nieces and nephews and of course their most recent family addition….Teddy, their Goldendoodle puppy.

He was a man of faith and believed in the power of prayer. Gary was extremely passionate about his work and could talk about it for hours. He was very much respected by his bosses and co-workers at 2X Hydro; they nicknamed him "Big Gun". Gary was a Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast, which is how Gary and Joy met. His rider community knew him as "Bigfoot". His family was paramount to him as he demonstrated his love for his children and grandchildren through numerous acts of kindness and support over the years.

Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather "Pops", uncle, cousin, brother and friend. While we were all blessed to have him touch our lives, the past couple years did not come without personal sacrifice as he chose to continue extensive chemo treatments so he could extend his time with his family. Interacting with them was a source of strength and energy for him as he braved his fight with cancer over past couple of years.

The celebration of Gary's life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 12 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, officiated by Reverend Ned Smith. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place starting at 9am, providing an opportunity for family and friends to pay their respects.

Gary will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, 4623 Preston Hwy, Louisville, KY 40213.

In honor of Gary's memory, the family kindly suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society (www.donate.cancer.org) or Homeless Veteran's Fund, Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs, 1111 B Louisville Road, Frankfort, KY 40601, in lieu of flowers.
