Garnett Wayne Vickers, age 74 of Louisville, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Wayne was born June 15, 1938 in Paris, KY to the late Roy and Mary Vickers. He was a UAW Local 862 Millwright and spent 37 years working for Ford Motor Company at the Kentucky Truck Plant. Ford was the one constant in his life and his UAW brothers and sisters were his family.
Wayne was a patron of the arts, frequenting the Kentucky Center for the Arts. He enjoyed country music, often went to concerts in Louisville and Nashville, and was a cowboy at heart.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his son, Johnathan Vickers.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Donna Vickers; children, Tammy Jones, Garnett Wayne Vickers, II, Sandy Vickers, Candy Vickers; step-daughter, Vicki Vickers; sisters, Linda Randall and Naomi Foster; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and dogs, Pebbles and Bam-Bam.
Funeral service will be Friday, October 5, 2012 at 12:00PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY. Visitation will be Thursday, October 4, 2012 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM and on Friday, October 5 from 9:30AM until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the UAW/Ford, Metro United Way Ramp Program.
