Freda Mae (Johnston) Reed

Freda Mae (Johnston) Reed, 88, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024. She retired from Boland Maloney Lumber Company after 43 years. Freda had several hobbies and interests that included cheering for the Louisville Cardinals, watching game shows, visiting the casino and spending time with her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed working puzzles and crosswords, playing bingo, opening presents and socializing with her neighbors on Highland Avenue.

She was born on September 26, 1935 in Dog Creek, Kentucky to Earl and Ruby (Thompson) Johnston. Along with her parents, Freda was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny; and siblings, Hebert, Ralph, Houston and Wilma.

Freda is survived by her sons, Mark Reed (Jennifer), Michael Reed, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Vicki Wilson; grandchildren, Mike Reed, Jr. (Brooke), Ashleigh Reed, Crystal Ethington, Paige Reed, Kenneth "Cooper" Reed; great-grandchildren, Kaeli, Demian, Mikayla, Jordan, Aden, Kameron, Kerrigan; one great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Harvey Thompson; and several nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Tuesday after 9:00 a.m. Her funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville. 

Contributions in Freda’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
