Fred William Hyde, 72, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. He was a United States Navy veteran, who served in the Vietnam era from February 6, 1969, to December 8, 1972.
He was born on September 8, 1949, in Oneida, Kentucky, to Frank and Flora (Birch) Hyde, raised in Manchester, Kentucky. Fred attended Clay County Elementary and Clay County High School. He furthered his education by attending drafting and mechanical schools and later studied computer programming at Watterson College in Louisville, Kentucky, where he met his wife, Frances. He held several jobs over the years but was passionate about truck driving. He always jokingly said he was a "Jack of all trades, but master of none."
Fred had a friendly demeanor and would hold a conversation with anyone. He knew no strangers. Fred enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, and golf, bowling, and fishing. He liked working on both cars and motorcycles.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his siblings, Virginia Faye Pennington, Margie Harris, and Mackey Hyde.
Fred is survived by his wife of 43 years, Frances (Smith) Hyde; children, William Hyde, Fred Turner, Craig Smith (Jewel), Tracie Young (Houston), Kevin Hyde (Erian), and Nikesha Hyde; siblings, Frank Hyde, Jr., Judy McCowan, Mary Collins (Jerry), Willie Hyde, Ruby Howington, and Rodney Hyde (Misty); grandchildren, CaNyla White, Ariyanna Pitts, Elijah Davis, Dalton Smith, Jaylen Davis, and Tristan Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with his funeral service and military honors taking place at 12:00 p.m. Cremation will follow according to Fred's wishes.
