Franklin Delano Banet, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, in New Albany, Indiana, at the age of 87. Born on December 16, 1936, in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, Franklin lived a life rich in love, community service, and family connections.
Franklin's greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He shared a remarkable 68 years of marriage with his loving wife, Frances Ann Banet, who preceded him in death. Their partnership was more than that of a husband and wife; they were best friends who explored the world together, often hiking hand in hand through life's journeys. Franklin cherished every moment spent with his children—Pamela J. (Matt) Gulett, Franklin (Nancy) Banet, Virginia "Ginny" Monohan, and Theresa M. (John) Poe. He proudly watched his legacy grow with 18 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life.
Franklin was a dedicated professional who retired as Vice President and Plant Manager from Robinson Nugent. His commitment to his work was paralleled by his devotion to his family and community. Franklin was a lifetime member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church and held active roles in various community organizations, including being a founder and serving as Past President and Director of the Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire Board and the Floyd County Parks Board. His leadership extended further as he was a trusted advisory council member for Prosser Vocational School and engaged with the Floyd Knobs Community Club. His enthusiasm for service and mentorship left an indelible mark on the lives he touched.
His hobbies included fishing, farming and making walking sticks, activities that not only brought him peace but also allowed him to connect with nature and those around him. Franklin was known for his generous spirit, often volunteering in his community and mentoring others. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued and special, leaving behind a network of friends and family who adored him.
Sadly, Franklin leaves behind his living family, including his brother Edmund Banet, brother David (Ann) Banet, sister Venita Lynch, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.
He was welcomed into eternal rest by his beloved wife Frances, his parents Raymond and Flora Banet, his great grandson Blake Schmidt, and his siblings Jerry Banet, Raymond "Junie' Banet and Loretta Atkins. Their spirits surely welcomed him with open arms.
