Frank Whetstone, 79, went home to his heavenly Father on May 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Frank was born on June 24, 1944, in Kellyton, Alabama. He was the second of Ezra and Carrie Bell Whetstone's eight children. Frank was a 1965 graduate of J.D. Thompson High School where he met the love of his life Betty Joyce Taylor, who became his wife of 51 years before her passing on May 13, 2017.
Frank served in the Army from 1965-1967. He received basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and was deployed to Korea and then sent to Fort Knox, Kentucky before completing his 2 years of service in the Army.
For 35 years Frank provided the residents of Community Towers with transportation and maintenance services. Eventfully, he took his knowledge and experience to St. John Center (A local day shelter for the homeless) where he served as Plant Manager for 20 years before retiring in 2018.
Frank is survived by his four children, Sharon Wooden, Althea Edmondson, Bernard Whetstone and Lavetra Whetstone all of Louisville, KY; siblings, Rev. James Lewis Whetstone (Shirley), Alexander City, Al, Ola Payne, Louisville, KY, Glenda Leonard (James), Stafford, VA, Darnel Whetstone (Carolyn), Alexander City, AL; in-laws, Donna Sue Whetstone, Alexander City, Al, Gloria Whetstone, Louisville, KY, John W. Traylor, Jr. (Dorothy), St Louis, MO, Richard Traylor (Bernice), Seattle, WA; four grandchildren; four, great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Frank and Betty were members of Canaan Christian Church, 2840 Hikes Lane, Louisville KY 40218, where his visitation will be held from 10am-12pm, Friday, June 7, 2024, with a celebration of Frank's life beginning at 12pm.
Frank will be laid to rest with his wife Betty Whetstone at Green Meadows Cemetery, 3800 Shank Lane, Louisville, KY.
