Francis "Gene" Wisman, born on December 30, 1952, in New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025. He was a remarkable individual whose spirit resonated with those fortunate enough to know him.
Gene dedicated his career to serving as a security guard for entertainment services, where he ensured the safety and enjoyment of countless events. His unwavering commitment to his work was paralleled by his passion for music, particularly playing the drums at various events, bringing joy and rhythm to gatherings.
Gene's personality shone through in his relationships with family and friends. He took immense pride in his grandson, Grayson, whose presence in Gene's life brought him unparalleled joy. His heart held a special place for his nieces and nephews, ensuring that they were always cherished and remembered. Additionally, he was a proud member of the Georgetown Optimist Club and was actively involved in 4-H, embodying a spirit of community and service.
A lover of life and the people he met along his journey. He never met a stranger. He was a loved member of his beloved town of Lanesville, Indiana. Gene enjoyed riding his golf cart and was an avid fan of UK sports. He found happiness in attending local festivals, fairs, and church picnics, always relishing the opportunity to gather with family and friends. His enthusiasm for making memories with his loved ones was evident in every aspect of his life.
Gene is survived by his sister, Diana Dukes; brother, Donnie (Stacy) Wisman; significant other, Jan Summers; bonus son, Casey (Stephanie) Summers; grandson, Grayson Summers; bonus sister, Candy (Herb) Stewart; niece, Shannon (Claude) Walther; niece, Stacey Walther; nephew, Justin (Holly) Wisman, bonus niece, Courtney (Jeremy) Robinson; several great nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Jr. and Hazel Wisman, and his brother-in-law, Bill Dukes.
A visitation and memorial service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. The visitation will begin at 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM. Gene's legacy will endure through the love he fostered and the memories he created, leaving an indelible mark on all who were privileged to be a part of his life.
The family requests that contributions in Francis’s memory be made to Crusade for Children.
