Florence Effie (Martin) Whitson

Florence Effie (Martin) Whitson, 93, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Merry Melodies vocal group, and Faithpoint Methodist Church in Floyds Knobs. Florence had been an avid bowler, enjoyed going to Recycled Keenagers Putt Golf, and participating annually in the LifeSpan Resources Senior Games.

She was born on November 26, 1929, in Gleanings, Kentucky, to William and Viola (Skaggs) Martin. In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Lloyd "Dale" Whitson; daughter, Sheri Whitson; and siblings, Maggie Spurling, Hattie Underwood, Nora Humphrey, Nannie Metcalf, Edward Martin, Jennie Perkins, Lona Perkins, Dorothy Burba, Freda Sharp, LaVerne Meyer, James Martin, Mabel Riggs, and Linda Milby.

Florence is survived by her children, Grant Whitson, Theresa Spengler, Gregory Whitson, Brent Whitson (April), and Rebekah "Becky" Million; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was dearly loved by her family and friends; Florence will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Wednesday after 9:00 a.m. Her funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
