Everett Norman Scheer, Jr., 68, of Louisville, KY passed away July 10, 2014 with his loving family surrounding him after a three-year battle with prostate cancer. Ev was born September 14, 1945 in St. Joseph, MI, to the late Everett and Lucille (Metzger) Scheer. He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1963 and the University of Notre Dame in 1967 with a degree in chemical engineering. Ev spent over 35 years doing research then sales and marketing with BF Goodrich/Zeon Chemicals before retiring in 2001.
Since his retirement in 2001, Ev spent most of this time volunteering. He enjoyed giving his time to Plant-a-Row Gardening to feed the hungry, St. Vincent de Paul, and Habitat for Humanity. Ev was an active member of the Church of the Epiphany and participated in many ministries, including being a Eucharistic Minister to the sick and homebound. He also enjoyed traveling the world with Dianne, getting his hands dirty gardening, time on the golf course and playing Sudoku.
Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years Dianne (Doria) Scheer; son, Everett Scheer III of Madison, WI; daughters, Rebecca Scheer (Andy Hoffman) of Indianapolis, IN, and Sarah Scheer (Eric Davis) of Louisville, KY; brothers, Fr. John Scheer and James Scheer; sisters, Mary Lange and Carol Scheer; and sister-in-law, Christine Miller. Ev will also be missed by a host of extended family member and friends.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, July 14, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243) with memorial service beginning at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 15 at 11:30 am at Church of the Epiphany (914 Old Harrods Creek Road, Louisville, KY 40223).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Mass of the Air, Home of the Innocents, or a charity of your choice.
