Evelyn Louise (Schmidt) Been

Evelyn Louise (Schmidt) Been, 93, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023. She retired from the New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation and was a lifelong member of St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church. Evelyn enjoyed tending to her flower beds and visiting with family and friends on her back porch. She was a talented cook and loved baking pies and cakes for others.

She was born on December 23, 1929, to Phillip and Lula (Naville) Schmidt. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands, Homer Voyles and Frank Been; and siblings, Martha Underwood, and Vincent, Cornelius, Leo, and Francis Schmidt.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Kathy Byrn (Michael) and Bruce Been; grandson, Brett Byrn (Angela); great-grandchildren, Hudson, Holton, and Hayward Byrn; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church (7500 Navilleton Road, Floyds Knobs) with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
