Eugene Ray Barker

August 13, 1930 — April 7, 2014

Mr. Eugene Ray Barker, age 83 of Louisville, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2014. He worked at the News-Enterprise in Elizabethtown, Kentucky and retired from the Courier Journal in 1989. He was an avid runner and had served as president of the Iroquois Hill Runner's Club. He ran over 100 marathons including one in all 50 states. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Katherine Elizabeth Barker; and his parents, William and Willie Mae Ray Barker.

Mr. Barker is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Lisa Barker; grandchildren, Lindsey, Lauren, Ethan and Jenna; sister, Ann McNally; and brother, James H. Barker. He is also survived by a host of family and many friends.

Funeral ceremony will be 1pm Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive with visitation on Wednesday from 3:30pm to 7:30pm, and Thursday from 10am until time of service at the funeral home.
