Eugene Erny

Eugene "Gene" Erny, 98, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024.

Gene was born on June 6, 1925 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Otto and Esther (Deinderfer) Erny. Gene is also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Martha Jean (Smith) Erny; brothers, Rudolph J. Erny, Otto Erny Jr. and sister, Laverne Wilma Effinger.

Gene was a 1942 graduate of Saint Xavier and a graduate of University of Louisville and a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a past member of The Hunter's Club, Hurstbourne Country Club, he loved playing cards, games and the lottery. Gene was a member of St. Albert's Catholic Church.

Gene is survived by his loving children, Eugene "Beanie" Erny, Jr. (Sharon), Elizabeth Erny Conway (Stephen), Albert "Bert" William Erny (Jane); five grandchildren, Elizabeth (Mike), Gretchen (Cody), Stephen (Christine), Mary, Ellen (Mike); nine great-granddaughters and a great-grandson on the way.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the Mass at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 24, 2024 in the Chapel at Little Sisters of the Poor (15 Audubon Plaza Dr, Louisville, KY 40217). Burial will be private at Calvary Cemetery.

The family requests that contributions in lieu of flowers to Gene's memory be made to Little Sisters of the Poor (15 Audubon Plaza Dr, Louisville, KY 40217).
