Eric Laurence Nicodemus

July 16, 1971 — September 25, 2023

With great sorrow and broken hearts, we announce the passing of our loving, kind,
and unimaginably generous husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Eric Laurence
Nicodemus.

Eric passed away on September 25, 2023 after an unexpected illness. He was only
52. We are devastated and shocked by his sudden death.

Eric is survived by his wife and best friend, Kim (Bailey), who deeply cherished
their 26 years together; and his children, Alex and Jenna, who greatly loved and
admired their father.

His memory lives on with his parents, Larry and Linda (Hazlett) and his sister
Kimberly Gillespie (Nicodemus)). He will be missed by his nieces and nephews,
Kendall and Chase (Gillespie), Caleb and Eleanor (Bailey), Caitlin Trower, and
Patrick O'Neil.

Eric was born in Asheville, North Carolina. He was an accomplished athlete; he
played football and baseball in high school, and baseball at North Carolina State
University, where he graduated with a degree in Business Management in
December, 1993.

Shortly after graduation, Eric was recruited by IBM. He worked his way to senior
account executive. He was approached multiple times to relocate for career
promotions, but turned them down so his children's lives would not be disrupted.
Eric was always selfless and cared about others more than himself.
Eric met his wife Kim in 1998 in Denver, Colorado, at a work event for IBM. Eric
was a very good skier; Kim was not. Despite Kim's lack of athleticism, from that
time on, they were inseparable. They both relocated so they could live, and
eventually, marry, in Raleigh, NC. Shortly after they were married, they moved to
southern CA, which proved to be a highlight of their marriage. They loved to try
new restaurants, enjoy the beach, and travel.

Eric was a committed and extraordinarily loving husband to Kim. He loved her
unconditionally.

Eric's and Kim's son, Alex, was born in Mission Viejo, CA. Shortly afterward,
Eric, Kim, and Alex relocated to Louisville, KY. Their daughter Jenna, was born in
Louisville.

Eric was a very hands-on father. He changed almost as many diapers as Kim did,
expertly swaddled their babies, attended their extra-curricular activities, and
thoroughly enjoyed watching his son develop his talent as a highly skilled jazz
pianist and his daughter become a tremendous artist and writer. He was so proud of
his children.

Eric was an outstanding account representative at both IBM and Lenovo. His
colleagues, managers, executives, and customers alike praised Eric for his integrity
and superior work ethic. He instilled in his children that hard work and
steadfastness produce results.

Anyone who knew Eric knew he loved sports. His favorite season of the year was
football season. Eric was an avid NC State fan. He could rattle off so many
team-related statistics that he might as well have been a professional commentator.
However, regardless of what match, movie, or TV show he was watching, Eric
always did these things at home. Home meant family, and Eric's selfless love for
his family drove all his hard work. Eric would truly do anything for those he loved:
even driving and picking up a Chick-Fil-A family dinner every Monday, or
enduring the clawful mischief of the family cat, Tuck. His quiet, steadfast nature
was a comfort to many.

Eric's family never expected their story with him to end with his passing at such a
young age and in such a sudden way. His legacy will carry on forever. The love he
modeled for his family and his desire to be a Godly man will continue to have an
impact on everyone he knew.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 30th at Sojourn
East Church, 2501 Rudy Lane, Louisville, KY. The family will greet guests from
10am to 11am, followed by a celebration of Eric's life from 11am to noon.

We extend a special thanks to the profoundly compassionate doctors and nurses
who cared for Eric at Norton Brownsboro Hospital, as well as friends and family
for their heartfelt prayers and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider a
donation to the American Association of Diabetes (https://diabetes.org/) as a wish
of wellness to Eric's father.
