Eric Steven Lathrop, 42, of Louisville passed away Saturday, March 15, at home surrounded by his friends and family after a long battle with cancer. Eric was a graduate of Don Dero High School, as well as a graduate of Michigan Technology University. When he was younger, Eric was an Eagle Scout. He worked as a software engineer at Horse Racing Nation, co-founder of Louisville Makes Games, a non-profit 501(c)3 which runs events for and supports the Louisville indie game scene, the founder of Louisville Tech (https://louisvilletech.org/), a consolidated directory and calendar of technology user groups and meetups in Louisville, Kentucky. Also the main Slack chat for basically every software developer in the city (3,100 members). Eric was also half of Two Scoop Games, a Louisville indie game studio that made web and mobile games for nearly a decade. Together they created over 20 games and prototypes. Eric was an avid bird lover, always going to parks and photographing them. He also loved Dungeons and Dragons, and was a member of a local D&D group. Eric is preceeded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Edwards.
Eric is survived by his wife, Kristy Yeter; his two step-children, Ayshe and Amelia Yeter; his father and stepmother, Greg and René Lathrop; two brothers, Brian (Katie) and Sean (Amy) Lathrop; a brother, Dan Pugsley; and a sister, Angela LaFrance. Eric also leaves behind many friends that he considered family.
Eric did not want a funeral because he didn't want so much sadness. He opted to throw a Celebration of Life gathering where more than 50 of his closest friends and family attended. He wanted to be able to see and hear from all those who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to The Parklands of Floyd's Fork in Eric's name.
