Elwood E. Hutchens, Sr., 97, of New Albany, Indiana passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 10, 2015. He retired from L&N/CSX Transportation after 46 years of dedicated service and was a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany.
He was born on May 2, 1918 in New Albany to the late Eugene and Anna (Dickson) Hutchens. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Stanley Hutchens, Marvin Hutchens, Estelle Hays; and granddaughter, Kimberly Cooke.
Elwood is survived by his loving wife of over 75 years, Mary (Yochem) Hutchens; children, Judith Schroeder (Ralph "Rudy"), Alice "Carol" Crady (Jerry), Elwood "Woody" Hutchens, Jr. (Elaine), Robert Hutchens (Sue), Phyllis Kaiser (Bob), Richard Hutchens (Debra), Beth Ann Luckett (Steve), Mary Denise "MD" Smith (Carl), Laura Schnell (Mike), Tom Hutchens (fiancé, Teresa Goodman), Mark Hutchens (Valentina Jennings); 34 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; and best buddy, Mac.
Visitation will be from 12 PM to 8 PM on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN) and on Saturday after 9 AM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church (129 W. Daisy Lane, New Albany, IN) with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
