Elsie Mae Phieler

Elsie Mae Phieler of Lanesville, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, November 28, 2020.

Elsie was born on August 19, 1937, in Saint Meinrad, Indiana, to the late Edward and Claudina Meyer. She was united in marriage to Edmund Phieler on June 9, 1956, and to this union brought 8 children.

She is preceded in death by her sisters, Esther, Rita, and Stella; brothers, Clarence and Dennis; son, Gary Phieler; daughter, Jacqueline Phieler; and husband, Edmund Phieler.

She was a graduate of Forrest Park Jr.-Sr. High School. Elsie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church for over 50 years. During that time, she spent over 20 years as an intricate part of the St. Mary's staff.

Elsie was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. She will be remembered for her avid love of reading and puzzles, her service at St. Mary's, her gardening, and her skillful crafting.

She is survived by her children, Betty Conklin (Mike), David Phieler (Karen), Michael Phieler, Glenn Phieler (Kim), Kevin Phieler (Liz), and Kathleen Exline (Kenneth); grandchildren, Kaci, Bailee, Kyle, Jessica, Eric, Megan, Paul, Bella, Ivan, Kaitlyn, and Emily; 7 great-grandchildren; and sisters Bea, Jane, Phyllis, and Carla.

Elsie made a lasting impact on everyone she touched throughout her life. She will be remembered fondly and lovingly by her friends and family.

Private Visitation will be held at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, IN). Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, December 7, 2020, at St. Mary's Lanesville (2500 St. Mary's Dr. NE, Lanesville, IN). Elsie will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
