Elmer D. "Ralph" Scalf, 72, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 8:59 pm at home surrounded by his wife and children. Ralph was a 1969 graduate of Floyd Central. He went to college in 1981 to become an arc welder and again in 1990 to become a certified electrician. He was employed at Lobdell-Emery in Corydon, Indiana as a crane operator and welder. Ralph was also a proud veteran of the United States Army.
He was born on November 14, 1951 in Corbin, Kentucky to the late Willie Bert Scalf, Sr. and Margie Farnsley Scalf. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Bert Scalf, Jr.; granddaughter, Britney Maddox; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Maddox and Bayleigh Jones.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife of nearly 45 years, Winifred "Wendy" Scalf; children, Christina Scalf, Marcia Hodges, Joe Bates, Gene Linne (Susan), D.J. Scalf (Jamie), Nicki Scalf, and Amanda Rogers (Michael); siblings, Molly Stotts, Donnie Scalf and Nelson Scalf; 6 granddaughters; 8 grandsons; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 6:00 pm on Thursday, at the funeral home. Cremation will follow in accordance with Ralph's wishes.
