Ellen "Irish" Willis, 81, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022. Irish was the most unselfish, loving, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to everyone who was blessed to have known her. She never met anyone that did not fall in love with her fun loving spirit and big heart.
She was born on September 19, 1941 in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. She was orphaned at a young age and raised by the Dominican Sisters. She was one of the first young woman in Northern Ireland to take and pass the 11 Plus Exam for Exceptionally gifted children. Irish and her siblings were reunited as a family after the marriage of her sister Mary. After moving to London to find work Irish met the love of her life in her husband Scott. After Scott's Military service they moved to Kentucky to raise their family. Irish was always involved in her children's school and activities. She loved working BINGO's at OLC and Holy Cross High School. During her time working at Target and Meijer (Valley Station) she met many people who became life long friends.
Irish may best be known for her love of The Kentucky Wildcats, John Calipari will miss his yearly birthday card from her. Chicago Fire, Jerry Springer, and Cops lost their biggest fan.
She is preceded in death by her Mother, Nellie McGinn, Husband, Scott Paul Willis, Siblings, Johnny McGinn and Mary Paul.
Ellen is survived by her loving, children, Paul S. (Marquita) Willis and Erin M. (William) Alexander; Grandchildren, Patrick (Kristi) Willis, Chelsea Willis, Shelby (Wyatt) Mowery, Lauren Alexander, Hailey Alexander, and Scottie Alexander; 4 Great-Grandchildren and 2 on the way; Sister, Margaret Rice; Sister-In-Law's, Diane (Greg) Brown, Bobbye (Gary) Spector, Peggy Anderson, and Sherry Neuner; Brother-In-Law's, Mark (Dan) Willis and Mike Willis, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends to cherish her loving memory forever.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). Her Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Monday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West in Louisville, Kentucky.
The family requests that contributions in Ellen's memory be made to Alzheimer's Association.
