Ellen Clements Greene of Louisville, KY, previously Norfolk, VA passed away peacefully at home on June 6, 2024. Born to Gene and Ruth Clements in Norwich, NY, she spent much of her childhood in northern Virginia where she met her husband, Donald Greene. Ellen used both her Masters in Education and training at Gettysburg Theological Seminary to serve and minister throughout her life. She was a chaplain, an active volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Virginia and involved in numerous organizations with the Lutheran church (ELCA). Ellen was a woman whose Christian faith was at the forefront of her life, displayed in her radiant smile and her readiness to serve at moment’s notice.
Left to cherish Ellen’s memory is her husband, Donald Greene, who has basked in her love and devotion for 50 years. Also surviving Ellen is her brother, Wayne Clements and his wife, Barb, who welcomed the Greene’s move to Louisville in 2022; Ellen’s nephews, Tyler Clements (Lindsay), Zach Clements (Alex) and Nathan Clements (Carly); her uncle, Bruce Clements; cousins, Ruth Clements-Gottlieb (John), Martha Brittell and Hanna Rachel Hart (Reece). Her loss is deeply felt by countless friends, neighbors and church colleagues. Her new friends in Louisville brought Ellen great comfort and joy as they had embraced her so readily.
