Elizabeth Anne ("Betty") Griffin Hoover was called to her heavenly home on March 4, 2023. Betty was a native of Mt. Vernon, KY, the daughter of Ralph Wallin Griffin and Anna Katherine Baugh. Music became her passion when she started piano lessons as a young girl while the family was living in Penney Farms, FL. By the time she was in high school, she played the pump organ for the "Sunday Mornin' Gatherin," a radio show connected to the Renfro Valley Barn Dance in Rockcastle County. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School, and then attended Eastern Kentucky Teachers College, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education, with a focus on piano.
Betty taught general music in Jefferson County Schools for a number of years in the 1960s, as well as teaching private piano lessons. She married Harold Hoover in 1965. Betty lovingly, devoted herself to her husband and children throughout her long life, drawing deep satisfaction from being a wife, mother, and homemaker She will be dearly missed by all.
The most important aspect of Betty's life was her strong faith in Jesus Christ. She became one of the charter members of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. For years, Betty served as pianist and organist for the church, as well as volunteering in the Children's ministry, and was active for years in the Lydia Circle. For over 20 years, Betty and Harold served the church every Monday morning by vacuuming and cleaning the sanctuary. She was an active member of the Friendship Sunday School class, and then the Acts 2 Adult Bible Fellowship class. In recent years, she led her class every Sunday in singing beloved hymns. She also played piano for Classic Worship services at Chapel in the Woods till last year. Everyone who knew Betty will remember her loving, quiet, and joyful spirit, evidence of faith in Christ.
