Edwin Verner Bergstrom, Sr, 98, of Fairdale, Kentucky passed away on Sunday morning, April 30, 2023. He was born in Wagner, Minnesota on November 29, 1924 to the late Charles and Gerda (Anderson) Bergstrom. Ed grew up in Minnesota before meeting the love of his life while stationed at Fort Knox. Once discharged from the Army, he moved to Louisville. He was a longtime active member of Southern Hills Church of the Nazarene (formerly Southside). Ed was a godly man, loving husband, father, brother and friend.
He was a self-taught master carpenter by trade, building homes in the 1950s and 60s. In 1969, he went to work for Garst-Receveur Construction Company and worked on many projects throughout the Louisville area until he retired in 1986.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Joyce (Gambrell) Bergstrom, his beloved wife of 71 years; seven brothers, Carl, Melvin, Theodore, Clifford, Kenneth, Russell and Rueben Bergstrom; and two sisters, Elsie Hatton and Esther Gruener Nyberg.
Ed is survived by his devoted children, Jane Lawless (Michael), Brenda Eilers (Kenneth), Edwin Bergstrom, Jr. (Cheryl) and Theodore Bergstrom (Carolyn); eight grandsons, fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 10am to 1pm on Monday, May 8, 2023 at Southern Hills Church of the Nazarene, 12320 Ridgemont Rd, Louisville, KY 40229. A celebration of Ed's life will be there at 1pm, followed by interment at Resthaven Memorial Park.
