Edward Wernert

Edward John "Ed" Wernert, 91, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2012.



Ed was born on July 8, 1921 in Harrison County, Indiana to the late Albert Jacob & Clara Elizabeth (Reinhart) Wernert. He was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Byrd in 1948 and to this union brought two children to bless their home. Ed was a proud veteran of The United States Army serving during World War II. He was a long time member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Corydon, Indiana.



Ed is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Margaret Wernert; children, Arthur E. Wernert, Carolyn E. Phillips (Patrick); sister, Dorothy Byrne; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Wilbur Wernert.



Visitation will be 2 to 8 PM on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday at the funeral home with entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park with full military honors being conducted.
