Edward J. Kirchgessner, 81, of Starlight, Indiana, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2013. Ed retired after 38 years with Essroc Cement Company in Sellersburg and was a long-time farmer. A lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, he leaves a legacy of hard work, generosity, and loyalty to the community. An avid basketball fan, he devoted attention to all his family's sporting events. Always quick to smile and see the good in others, he was lovingly dedicated to his family and his faith.
Ed was born in Floyds Knobs, Indiana on November 17, 1931 to the late Emil, Sr., and Irene (Missi) Kirchgessner. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Ann Kirchgessner, and brother, Clifford Kirchgessner.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary V. (Schickel); daughters, Betty Vick, Theresa Williams (Richard), Rita Beam (Jim), and Rosie Torres (Tony); sons, Steve Kirchgessner (Ramona), Mike Kirchgessner (Joy), Bill Kirchgessner (Michelle), Tim Kirchgessner (Debbie), Jerry Kirchgessner (Michelle), and David Kirchgessner (Kelly); brothers, Emil Kirchgessner, Jr.(Mary Rita) and Albert Kirchgessner (Betty); sisters, Marcella Graf (Ted), Mildred Fessel, and Martha Rhodes (Everett); 26 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 12 to 8 PM and 8:30 to 10:30 AM on Friday at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 12 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (8310 St. John's Road, Starlight) with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
