Edward Joseph "Bud" Herbst passed away on July 9, 2012 at his home in New Albany, Indiana. Ed was born on March 1, 1925 in Sellersburg, Indiana and during his lifetime lived in New Albany, Sellersburg, Niagara Falls, NY and Nassau Bay, TX. He was a member of St. Joe Hill Catholic Church in Sellersburg.
After serving in the Army during WWII, he graduated from Rose Polytechnic Institute in Terre Haute, IN with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his career he worked for several chemical firms including Stauffer Chemical of Louisville, KY and Pearsall (later Witco) Chemical of Deer Park, TX. He was an inspiration to his family and a source of love, encouragement and counsel. He was well known for his quick wit and wry sense of humor.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mildred (Barr) Herbst and a sister, Dorothy Coleman. He is survived by his children, Sharon Herbst of Houston, TX, John Herbst (Jane) of Melbourne, FL, Marilyn Whiteley (Robby) of Morrisville, NC, Carol Gutierrez (Alex) of Austin, TX and David Herbst of Austin, TX; sisters, Clara Mae Baumann of Sellersburg, Ruth Covert of Corbettsville, NY; his special companion of the last 13 years, Allene Wentworth of Louisville; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a rosary being prayed at 7:30 PM. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Saturday at St. Joe Hill Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
