Edith "Yvonne" Grundy

Edith "Yvonne" Grundy, 82, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, June 17, 2024. She was a graduate of Indiana University - Bloomington and retired from the New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation after 34 years of dedication to the classroom.

Yvonne was a longtime and active member of Bethel AME Church, where she shared her many talents, including the gift of playing the piano. Throughout the years, Yvonne volunteered her time with several community boards and organizations, and as a result, was the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions.

She was born on August 21, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky to James "Hardy" and Edith (Harrison) Williams. Along with her parents, Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Grundy.

Yvonne is survived by her step-daughters, Robyn Grundy-Miller, Debra Faye Grundy; cousins, Ronald Toran, Debra Toran, Marilyn Parris, Glenda Frazier (Darryl), Irma Cosby, Sallie Lacy (John); step-grandchildren, David, Regan and Raina Miller; close friends, Sheilah Smith and Oneita Phillips; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Galatian Missionary Baptist Church, (2020 Maryland Avenue, New Albany) and on Saturday after 9:00 a.m. Her funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church with burial to follow at West Haven Cemetery in New Albany.
