Edith "DeeDee" Cocanougher, died at her home in Middletown February 11, 2014. Her family was at her side throughout her battle with Alzheimer's, even in her final days.
She was born in Berlin, Germany August 4, 1928. Because of the bombing in Berlin, she and her mother and sister fled to Kitzingen Southern Germany. Her three brothers had died early, two in the World War II. She came to the US in 1955 to marry a service man who had been in the Occupation Forces in her home town. She married Kelly Cocanougher in 1983, he survives. Also surviving is her son, David Eller (Tammi); Daughter, Phyllis Eller; Granddaughters, Christina Welsh-Olliges (Jeremy), Tabitha Eller, Lindsey Craddock; Grandsons, Kurt Welsh, and Jeffrey Craddock.
DeeDee and Kelly lived a full life. They belonged to Big Spring Country Club, where they often golfed and occasionally danced. They traveled widely, often taking one or two grandchildren. In 1997, they took Christina and Kurt back to DeeDee's home town. They stayed a few nights in the same home that she stayed in during the war.
She was a naturalized American who loved living here, and voted every election.
