Earl Showalter, 93, passed away on December 27, 2013. He was a decorated WWII Army veteran serving as a 1st Scout in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater receiving 2 purple hearts and 5 Bronze stars, earning 1 of those in the Philippine Liberation. Earl retired from Brown-Foreman after 40 plus years. Most of all he was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ada Showalter and wife, Anna Louise Showalter.
Earl is survived by his daughters, Sheila (Neal) Ford and Debra Mercer; grandchildren, Chris (Stephene) Mercer and Cassie Ford; great-grandson, Alex Mercer; sister, Della Kulmer and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home Southwest Louisville Chapel from 4pm-8pm and Thursday, January 2 from 9am-12pm with funeral services beginning at 12pm..
Interment will be at Louisville Memorial Gardens - West, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Presbyterian Homes, Westminster Terrace of Louisville and Hosparus of Louisville for their love and care to Earl, with special thanks to Rhonda, Renee, Thara, Joe, Chris, Telia and all those who made his last days peaceful and the best possible.
