Dugles W. Cherry, 64, of New Albany, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, January 12, 2012 at his home with his wife at his side. He retired after 24 years of service from the U.S. Marine Corps as a Master Gunnery Sergeant and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Dugles was a member of the American Legion Post 28 Bonnie Sloan, the VFW Post 3281, and a member of the Marine Corp League in Louisville.
Dugles was born on April 7, 1947 in Scottsville, Kentucky to the late Garland E. and Mae Ethel (Woods) Cherry. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, James and Kelly Cherry.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda L. (Roark) Cherry; sons, Rodney A. Cherry, Dugles R. Cherry (Ana); siblings, George R. Cherry, Dorothy Giltner, Garland Cherry, Anna Mae Anderson; grandchildren, Demetrius A. and Victor A. Cherry.
Visitation will be from 10 AM to 8 PM on Sunday, January 15 and on Monday, January 16 from 10 AM to 8 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will take place at 11 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial and military honors to follow at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany.
