Dr. Thomas "Tom" Frederick Sleamaker, 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022. Tom was born to the late Walter and Mary Sleamaker in Louisville, Kentucky on July 29, 1943 and was raised alongside his sister, Ann. He graduated with a degree in biology from Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport, Class of 1966.
After graduating, he and his wife Kathryn were married and relocated to Lexington, Kentucky where he attended the University of Kentucky School of Dentistry. After completing dental school, Tom moved to Salem, Kentucky to start his private practice, which he had for 10 years. They settled in Salem and had two daughters, Meredith (1970) and Erika (1974). In 1979, Tom accepted a position teaching at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry where he taught for 30 years. He retired in 2009, and spent his time traveling, with friends and family, and being a proud "Pops" to Will and Kate.
Tom was very nostalgic and was interested in his family genealogy, history, dealing antiques, watching birds on his balcony, attending various concerts of all genres, and loved spending time with his "puppy" Sully. He loved to cook and grill out, and his absolute favorite steak was filet mignon, medium rare.
Tom is preceded by former wife, Kathy Sleamaker. He is survived by his daughters, Meredith (Dorothy) Sleamaker, Erika (Dave) Taylor; three grandchildren Will, Kate, and Bradley (Shenya); two great-grandchildren Prince and Zy'ere; his sister, Ann (Norman) Faught; his nephew, Dr. Clayton (Roxanne) Bratton, and his great nephews, Beau, Bennett, and Blake.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at Newcomer Cremation, Funerals & Receptions (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243) with a memorial service beginning at 2:00pm.
