Dr. Charles "Butch" Boyd, 75, of Goshen, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022 surrounded by family.
He was born on December 27, 1946 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to the late Coy and Lavon (Bradshaw) Boyd. He is also preceded in death by his two brothers John Bradshaw Boyd, Dr. Coy McArthur Boyd, best friends Stan Taylor and Jerry Hitt, Paul Young and Thom Atkins. Charles excelled in the world of academia graduating Salutatorian of his high school class. He completed undergraduate studies at Arkansas State and finished his studies at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry.
After graduation, he served as a dentist in the Navy attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander O-4. After leaving the Navy, he came back to Arkansas and spent several years in private practice with his late brother Mac, before returning to UT College of Dentistry to educate young dentists and practice for the remainder of his career.
The Boyd family tree will be impacted by his education contributions for generations as most of them pursued a career in dentistry following his lead. He was a loving husband, present father, thoughtful friend, joyful Paw-Paw, diligent philanthropist, mentor to newly recovering alcoholics, magician, sports enthusiast, and lifelong Razorbacks fan! Charles is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Wilson Boyd; sons, William Wilson Boyd (Kristin), Jeremy Grammer; daughters, Claudia Boyd Windham (David), Nadia Hughes (Jeffrey), and Monika; grandchildren, Gavin and Gabriel Boyd, Eli, Owen and Maggie Windham, Piper, Pilot and Hunter Hughes; sister, Debbye Kay Boyd; and numerous nieces (Angie, Shelley, Carye, Paige); nephews, (John, Coy Mac, Sloan, Cameron); and cousins whom he each considered his favorite. He is also survived by William's grandmother, Gladys Busby.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Broadway Baptist Church (7400 Getwell Road, Southaven, MS 38672) between 2-4pm with a service following between 4-5pm. There will also be a celebration of eternal life following the ceremony. Please contact Broadway for details.
The family requests that contributions in Charles's memory be made to Northpoint Christian School where he proudly served on the Board of Trustees for many years.
