Douglas "Doug" Ray Wearren Sr., 88, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Glenridge Health Campus, surrounded by loving family members.
Doug was born February 20, 1935 in Murray, KY to the late Raymond Aulton Wearren and Lorena Smith Wearren. He is also predeceased by his grandson, Jason Nathaniel Wearren, and 2 siblings, Larry Mitchell Wearren and Bill Wearren. Doug is survived by his four children, Doug Wearren, Jr., Brent Wearren, Mindy Carlton, and Jeff Wearren; and 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 3 siblings.
Doug was a great businessman he originally started out in the landscape business and did some large jobs, which included the Ky Ford truck plant, the Kentucky dam, government buildings downtown, and some of the distilleries. He was one of the largest landscaping companies in Louisville. From that, he started a travel agency, "International Tours." He was close friends with Denny Crum, and so The U of L Teams traveled through the agency, and he traveled with them a lot. He loved to play tennis and golf and was a member of Hurstbourne Country Club, and was one of the first landscape architects in Ky. Doug had a cabin on lake Barkley, he loved to fish and spend time with friends and family there. He bought Hancock's Feed Store in Middletown, which he converted into Makrs Feed Store.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 6 pm on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Louisville, (235 Juneau Drive). A service to celebrate Doug's life will follow that evening at 6 PM at the funeral home.
