On Thursday, February 27, 2025, Dorothy Ann Poynter peacefully departed this life.
Dorothy was born on November 16, 1940, to the late William and Willie Lewis of Port Royal, Kentucky. She attended Louisville Central High School.
She worked at Armour for 25 years before retiring. Dorothy was also a talented cook and owned a restaurant in Louisville’s West End called “Eat More.” In her later years, she devoted herself to caring for her loved ones, including her aunt, mother, husband, daughter, and grandchildren. Dorothy was known as a “Queen or Grand Dorothy ”—a beloved figure who extended her warmth and wisdom to everyone she knew.
Dorothy loved spending time with family and friends. She had a gift for bringing people together, especially when good food, laughter, and celebration were involved. She lived life to the fullest, without regrets, and was known for her honesty—she always spoke her mind with confidence and love. She was an outspoken person who said what she meant and meant what she said.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Poynter, and her lifelong Companion, William Morton.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Debora Lewis; her brother, William Lewis; and grandsons La Juan, Toi, Ameer Lewis, a host of stepsons and stepdaughters; and a large, loving family across the Poynter, Taylor, Bibb, Morton, and Lewis families. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A special gratitude to Mrs. Thornton, Jackie, Rick, and all her honorary caregivers in her later years.
Dorothy’s legacy of love, generosity, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
