Dorothy J. Mitchum

October 24, 1933 — September 3, 2024

Clarksville

Dorothy J. Mitchum, born on October 24, 1933, in Clarksville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 3 2024, at Norton Clark Hospital. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, warm spirit and nurturing presence brightened the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

Dorothy dedicated herself to her family. She worked many years at Wyandotte. She had a strong work ethic that she instilled in her children and an enduring sense of responsibility that characterized her life. Dorothy found joy in cooking and was known for her delicious meals that brought family together. An avid reader and passionate gardener, she spent countless hours nurturing both her plants and her grandchildren, fostering a love of nature and learning in them all.

Dorothy held a special place in her heart for her children: her daughter, Susan Riggle; her sons, Chester (Anita) Mitchum, Jr., Robert (Cheryl) Mitchum, and Mark (Libby) Mitchum; and her daughter, Barbara (Stephen) Tull. Each of them carries forward her legacy of faith, kindness, strength, and resilience, embedding in their lives the values their mother cherished.

As a grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy's love blossomed further. She is survived by her grandchildren, Aaron, Adam, Amy (Justin), Evan (Lee), Melanie, Christy, Hayley, Aaron (Paislee), Patrick, and Jack, as well as her nine great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride. Her brother, Bill (Lois) Cravens, along with several nieces and nephews, remain to honor her memory, bound by the love and lessons she imparted throughout her life.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Mitchum, Sr.; her parents, Jesse and Anna Cravens; and her brothers, Garland, Jesse, and Paul Cravens, along with several half-brothers and sisters. These family members will always hold a cherished place in her heart.
